Slow Cooker Taco Dip Recipe
Are you ready for some football?
I don't know how ready I am to actually follow the game, but I am ready for some football-watching food. I LOVE Super Bowl day. It's a day to chuck any and all New Year's dieting-type ideas out the window and eat whatever you want.
it would be un-American not to.
I made this dip a few weeks ago for a party, and the adults pretty much fought the kids to get their fill---which is saying a lot, because the oldest kid was 9, and I *know* for a fact there was plenty of double-dipping going on.
There's both Velveeta and cream cheese in this dip, so if your cholesterol is offended by these ingredients, you shouldn't make it. Instead, pick something light and healthy from the archives.
The Ingredients.
serves 12
1 block (8 oz) cream cheese
1 pound velveeta
2 cups jarred salsa (I like the one with beans and corn from Safeway)
1 (1.25 oz) envelope taco seasoning mix (McCormick is gluten free)
The Directions.
Use a 4 quart or larger slow cooker. Dump everything in. It will not look pretty, and that's okay. Cover and cook on low for about 3 hours, or on high for 90 minutes or until the cheeses have fully melted and are heated through. Stir well and serve with your favorite tortilla chips.

The Verdict.
I saw one of our neighbors use his finger to scrape out the bowl. I didn't tell him I was watching.

ReplyDeleteI make a dip kind of like this although I use a can of Rotel diced tomatoes/chili's instead of the salsa....and if I didn't already have my superbowl party dish planned, I'd be making this!

ReplyDeleteI learned recently that just after 4 double-dips, you can have as much as 10,000 new bacteria in your mouth. Just wanted to say, this Microbiology class I'm taking has me freaking out about microbes and bacteria. I want to seriously lock myself up in my house, duct tape my windows, and bathe in bleach. Don't even get me started on what's living on your toothbrush!!

ReplyDeleteI've made your low cal version of this using a jar of salsa, 1/4 can of fat free refried beans, 1 ounce of reduced fat cheddar and 2 ounces of reduced fat cream cheese. I do it in the mini crockpot (little dipper) - I have made it once a week for three weeks now and everyone (kids, adults) have raved about it!

ReplyDeleteyes. All of the ingredients here are naturally gluten free. Gluten is found in wheat, barley, and rye. Oats are off limits, too, unless they are from a designated gluten-free source, because of the risk of cross-contamination.

oh my gosh- I love the bean and corn salsa from safeway, too and am always soooo disappointed if my husband gets anything else. I agree with others on the Rotel... Rotel and Velveeta dip is like a religion down south :)

ReplyDeleteI make a dip with Turkey chili and a block of cream cheese. Boys are easy to please. ;)
i've made this before only i used a can of refried beans along with the salsa and then i dump in some browned ground turkey. it's a great meal to have while watching a movie or as a mini snack to hold me over till dinner.
