Home Again
I'm home, safe and sound. Thank you so much for all of your well-wishes and for tuning in to show support; it means so much, and I truly appreciate every email, comment, and page view.
Thank you.
I had a ball, an absolute ball. But I'm also really glad to be home.
If you haven't been able to find the link with the video on Good Morning America's Website, here it is.
The note up above is what my seven-year-old slipped into my coat pocket. I laughed so loud at the "Don't get lost" part. I suck at directions, and get lost regularly.
I didn't wander New York solely because I knew if I ventured more than 20 feet from the doorman I'd get lost. And even though when it was time to leave and the front of my hotel was SHOWN RIGHT TO ME and I could see it (about 1/2 block away), I got lost.
I wandered into a store and turned the wrong way when I came back out. oops. Want to totally freak out your husband? Casually mention you might be lost in New York City while on the phone with him.
Everyone was beyond nice----I was blown away by how genuine everyone seemed, and how thoughtful and considerate they were to me. When I met Diane, Robin, and Chris, they were real people who couldn't have possibly been nicer.
Be nice to Chris. Not only is he Capital H hot, he felt horrible for misspeaking my name, and apologized profusely. When I was driven to the airport, I spoke to his driver of two years, and he had nothing but nice words to say. He's evidently quite the family man and very dedicated to his children.
Patrick, who did my hair said I had great highlights and that I should keep my hairdresser. He also said that he would charge at least $400 for my hair. And that's when I almost fell from my chair.
I made Robin cry. My daughter's teacher is a cancer survivor and I shared that with Robin, and thanked her for being inspirational. She said, "No, the teacher is the inspiration---what a fantastic role model she is for all those children."
Then we both cried and she gave me a green napkin.
I came home to a clean house, 3 loads of folded and put away laundry, and sleeping kids. It was a very good trip.
Thank you.

You looked amazing, Katherine... I mean Stephanie! I can't believe he messed up your name. Great job. I am so inspired by your recipes.
ReplyDeleteI just watched the clip and was very impressed by how relaxed you were on national tv!!! I would have been puking or crying from nerves. I have been following your blog for quite some time now and had no idea so many people check this. I've tried many of your recipes and look forward to trying more of them. I'll definitely look for your cookbook. I love my crockpot! It's a lifesaver for me since I work full time outside the home and have a hungry family waiting for dinner every night.
ReplyDeleteI am glad you had a wonderful experience like that. I hope to see you on other shows. You were great!!!
ReplyDeleteI love looking through your recipes.I usually use my crockpot 1-2 times a week and this is the first place I look. Since getting a new crockpot for Christmas (we have a large family and outgrew my 5 qt.)my husband laughs at me for using both at the same time. It is a pleased laugh, however, and he definately likes having dinner ready when we walk in the door from church on Sunday.
ReplyDeleteYou have a graet smile by the way:)
You are so little and cute! I never imagined such a petite woman while I've been reading your blog! And, you look so different from your profile picture!
ReplyDeleteLooks like fun!
ReplyDeleteI'm so comforted to know that your super-adorable personality is really true in real life and not just on your blog. You are inspiring!
You did a great job! Congrats on all your success.
ReplyDeleteYou lucky, lucky girl! Love the pictures. And I was so excited to see you... I told my girls, "I *know* her!" They didn't care, lol. OK, so I don't *know* you personally, but have enjoyed making a lot of your recipes!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
you were awesome on national tv! kudos to you!
ReplyDeleteglad you had a fabulous time!
and what a great house to come home to! you lucky woman you!
Nice work! You looked so great, and totally rolled with the Catherine thing! Never have I been so excited for lunch leftovers as the day after I made your peking pork chops (and recommended them to almost everyone I talked to that day). Yum, yum, yum. Thanks again!
ReplyDeleteOkay, so how tall IS Chris?!
ReplyDeleteYou looked really beautiful! Amazing job! Honestly - how tall are those people? :-)
ReplyDeleteBlessings - Lisa
Okay, I'm impressed at the super-nice GMA people...
ReplyDelete...but what TRULY impresses me is the laundry and clean house. Keep that man around!
Hi, I just found your blog a few weeks ago and I am glad I did. I had only read your blog twice when I heard that GMA was doing a crock pot with Emeril and I thought of you..And now to my surprise I am reading that you were on GMA on Thursday (I missed it-sigh)Good for you : )
ReplyDeleteTerri C/Grand Prairie,TX
Can you find a clip of your segment on Youtube and put it on the blog? I missed it.
ReplyDeleteI loved watching your spot!! You did a great job!!
ReplyDeleteHere's a clip!

Wow, you're famous now. Where are those cute glasses though?? Nice job on GMA.
ReplyDeleteI saw the clip on GMA's website and I thought you were fantastic!
ReplyDeleteMy boyfriend wishes to thank you for this blog because of all the yummy food he's been eating lately!
Alright, I'll ask the obvious. Is everyone on GMA actually a giant or are you only four feet tall? Inquiring minds want to know.
ReplyDelete(Ow, stop hitting me. You know I love you!)
bwhaahahahaha, Mir!
ReplyDeleteBOTH! I am exactly 5 feet tall and was wearing 3" heeled boots. They are quite tall.
and thin. very, very thin.

Fantastic job Stephanie! But I would have expected no less. You are quite a natural on TV. I have not yet tried your Buffalo Chicken Lasagna recipe, but it sounds good and I think my hubby will eat it. It is now next on the list for next weekend! Thanks for all of your effort on this blog, it has fed us MANY times.
ReplyDeleteSo much fun to put a face to the blog! Thank you so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteStephanie, you are a lovely natural on TV! As natural as your writing style. Informative, authoritative and approachable! Something tells me we'll be seeing you on TV more in the future.....
ReplyDeletethat was SO entertaining, you looked very cool and collected...and I can already see your new show on Food network-you're gonna be a huge star, I tell ya!!
ReplyDeleteI watched you and thought you did great! You seemed so calm like it was so natural to be on national tv.
ReplyDeleteHow nice to hear that the GMA cast and crew were as nice as they seem.
ReplyDeleteI watched the show and that is why I am here (I am new to your blog and love it!) Found your blog via the show. What a wonderful blog you have!!!!
ReplyDeleteI got to see you on TV!!!! It was great fun. Congratulations! I only found your site recently, and thank you so much for the yummy recipes. You did so well with your tv spot--hope there are more to follow.
ReplyDeleteI watched you last night (I Tivoed it) and you were GREAT!! Love it!
ReplyDeleteOh you were so so great! I wish you would have gotten more time, but I'm so glad you got the time you did! I can't wait to get my copy of Totally Together--I need that more than anything!!
ReplyDeleteIt was so fun to see you and hear your voice, after reading your blog for so long! You are different than I imagined...I guess because of your profile picture--the angle makes it look like you have really short, dark hair. :-)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the note...how precious! And you came home to a clean house and laundry?? Fantastic!!
You're amazing! How were so you so calm and collected on national TV? Way to go! My only complaint: they didn't give you enough time...
ReplyDeleteI commented on your other post, but glad to see you shared all the GMA scoop here. (That group does come off as some of the nicest, most sincerest of the folks on TV.) So glad it was a good experience for you. You really rocked! I loved that you mentioned the brown rice noodles and gluten intolerance, too. More awareness. Love that! The funny thing is that chances are you'll be even more remembered because Chris Cuomo messed up your name. LOL, but true. Anyway, again, very cool. Sensational job!
ReplyDeleteShirley
I'm sooo gonna be you when I grow up. You looked great and did awesome. Making dinner fully caffinated... brilliant! :)

I saw you on GMA, my intro to you and your very fun project! It seems we have some of the same issues: No gluten and a strong dislike for bell peppers.
ReplyDeleteI'm happy to have read that the folks on GMA are just like they seem: nice. No surprise there. I wish you the best of success on your book.
A new fan,
Rita
I've been following your blog since nearly the beginning of last year, but don't believe I've ever posted a commnet. I just wanted to say I enjoyed the segment on GMA. You looked so calm and professional - awesome job! I'm glad you had a great trip and didn't get lost! lol
ReplyDeleteP.S. I made yogurt in my crockpot from your recipe a few days ago and I was blown away at how easy it was and how it turned out perfectly. Thanks for the inspiration!
Wow, what a fun trip!
ReplyDeleteI agree - you were so relaxed I would have been a nervous wreck!
Looking forward to the cookbook!
Congratulations for receiving the recognition and having a such a great trip validate your efforts.
ReplyDeleteSome of my good friends were there that day! They are in one of your pictures! And they didn't even know who you were until I told them!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful blog entry! The note from your daughter made me laugh and nearly spit Ghirardelli Dark Chocolate with Raspberry squares out of mouth and onto my husband's computer.
ReplyDeleteI kept it in :)
I am once again requesting your advice on burned on food. In the crock pot. Since you save my butt and my crock pot last time, I thought I'd hit you up again.
I was trying to be super-wife and make a chicken and dumplings recipe that I got from a friend.
I mixed the veggies, soup, and chicken up in our 3 qt crock pot that is super fun, has the capacity to be placed in a travel case and taken away...
and turned it on.
5 hours later, that mixture had grown.
And I hadn't even put the 2 cans of biscuit dough on it.
*This is where you start yelling and screaming "NO, don't do it!".*
Yep, I did it. I crammed 2 cans of Southern style biscuit dough on top of the nearly full crock pot mixture. And then jumped in the shower.
When I got back the crock pot, I had a disastrous mess.
The goo had leaked between the liner and the main base of the pot. I now have burned on goo on the metal portion of the crock pot (the part that houses all the electrical/heating components).
Is there ANY way to save my nice travel-capable crock pot?
And yes, I'm a blonde. And slightly stubborn when it comes to starting a project and proving that what I determined where the right guidelines (i.e. using the smaller crock pot) for the project would work.
Steph,
ReplyDeleteAwesome job! You totally pulled it off, looking oh-so natural and like you do this tv thing all the time! Congrats -- maybe you'll get your own crockpot show. Wow, that would be awesome!
How absolutely THRILLING! GMA is very lucky to have had you as a guest.
ReplyDeleteI saw the show and got so excited because I love crock pot cooking but haven't done much of it since my son had to start a gluten free diet in Oct. You have really inspired me. Thanks a lot
ReplyDeleteI saw you!!!!!!!!!! I almost forgot and when I turned on the tv prayed that I didn't miss it. I feel bad Chris messed up your name, but cleary he is human too. Great interview. Glas you had fun!
ReplyDeleteoh wow, I'd be so scared! I'm only 5" tall too and not so thin. You looked like you were surrounded by giants.
ReplyDeleteGreat job and I love this blog!
I watched you on GMA. You did great (even when he got your name wrong)! I am really loving your site and all the recipes. Everything I have tried is great. Keep up all the hard work!
ReplyDeleteYou are beautiful and did a wonderful job! I love your blog and have been following (though not commenting) for about six months. I have tried several of your recipes and always love the honesty and humor of the "verdict" portion of your recipe posts. I am also really looking forward to getting your home organization book once it FINALLY comes out. Any chance you can give us a sneak peek?
ReplyDeleteI just watched your clip on GMA's site. You looked great and relaxed! You did a great job. I love your blog and can't wait until the book comes out.
ReplyDeleteYou looked and did terrific!
ReplyDeleteGreat job! You look beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your blog.
I saw you on GMA. You did a great job! I'm glad to hear that you had nothing but good things to say about the GMA hosts. I was hoping they were as genuine in person as they come across on TV. Best of luck with your book release!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great trip! I love NY! Great job.
ReplyDeleteOK, fine, I take back what I said about Chris being a dweeb. ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteOkay, I saw the teaser to the show and then missed the segment because I had to shuttle everyone off to pre-k. But I feel like i know you just like I know Robin, Chris, Diane and Sam because I watch them every morning, and I read your blog every week. It was weird, like two of your friends who don't know each other meeting for the first time. Except I don't really know any of you. Anyway, congratulations! I was proud of you, and I am so making that hashbrown casserole!
ReplyDeleteSo cool... what a blast.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for posting the video link! I was so bummed when I couldn't get to the gym in time for your TV appearance. I don't have cable and no friends were able to record it. So I prayed some recording would be available somewhere and it was sooner than I though! I loved the clip. You really were relaxed and the blue top was so cute on you! You looked totally feminine next to the man who called you Katheryn :)! Great job! You inspire us all to cook meals for our family. We rarely eat out and save tons of money to give to those who are in desperate need! Your blog has helped me save even more! Be blessed! I loved your 7 yo's cute note! Timeless!
ReplyDeleteBeing short is tough in a lot of ways. I too am just barely 5 feet tall. However I'm quite a bit wider than you are. I forget what us shorties look like against others until something like "you and the giants" confront me. You looked so cute and did such a wonderful job! Looking forward to other shows and hope that you take the time to keep us posted on your travels as you have with this one. Enjoyed your post.
ReplyDeleteyou rocked it !! you were so natural !!!
ReplyDeleteOh Katherine!!! What a great video. (I'm so joking on the name) But seriously, what a wonderful segment :-) Congratulations.
ReplyDeleteYou seem right at home in the spotlight. Way to go. I'm still happily crockpotting our meals. Thanks to you. The little note is wonderful, too. Many good wishes for your continued success.
ReplyDeletethanks for posting the link...i forgot to set my tivo that morning. you were wonderful, but we all knew you would be. i'm looking forward to trying out the lasagna. my daughter HATES lasagna so i wonder how she'll like this version. i'll have to make it soon!
ReplyDeleteThat was awesome! How exciting for you. I think I would have been super nervous on there... you did great though.

Great job! I think NY would be overwhelming also. I love your blog and visit it everytime you post on it, Way to go!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing!!!!
ReplyDeleteI remembered to set my DVR to tape good morning america on that day to see you and you did great! :)
ReplyDeleteThe crockpot recipes looked great and you did a good job talking and not being nervous. And your hair is cute! ;)
Thanks for the pictures and the link so I can show my daughter (she was at school) Glad you enjoyed your trip. Get my directions all turned around all the time too. I love NY -glad you got to wander (just alittle) it's a fun city. Big and busy but still fun and great. Glad your home safe and sound and an added bonus...a clean house. :)
ReplyDeleteI watched you, you were great, you seemed so relaxed and professional even rolling with the joke about putting the babies in the crockpot. I have run across lots of chatter about you on some of the Gluten Free sites I frequent, keep up the great work.
ReplyDeleteWonderful job, Stephanie. Congrats.
ReplyDeleteHey, do you have an email address set up for recipe requests? I have one I'd love to send to you.
My kids have never liked lasagna, but I'm going to have to give that recipe you showed a try.
You are a natural on TV. Congrats!
Leah
You did a fantastic job! I also hope to see more of you on tv. :)
ReplyDeleteI have an oval 6.5qt crockpot and the plastic handle on the lid came off when I was lifting the lid. Have you had this problem? I appears that the plastic has cracked, and there are no replacement lids available to purchase on Rival's website. I have had the pot just over a year of course, so the warranty wouldn't cover me. Of course the first 6+ months I rarely used the crockpot...then I found your blog.
ReplyDeleteDisenchanted In KS
Hi Becca,
ReplyDeleteI have had that happen. Is the glass okay? Unscrew the remaining handle pieces, and get a drawer pull/knob from the hardware store. It will work just fine, and you can customize with a "fancy" drawer pull. Maybe a bunch of grapes or a high-heeled shoe...? :-)

What a nice segment on GMA! Congratulations on your upcoming book and thanks for sharing your year of recipes. I loved the note from your daughter, too.
ReplyDeleteI saw your segment on GMA and was inspired to check out your blog since I was recently diagnosed with Gluten intolerance and trying to learn new things to cook. Can't wait to try some of your recipes. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI am trying your 16 bean soup recipe, but what size bag of beans are you using? I don't know how many onion packages to use. My bag of beans is almost 2 pounds (1pound 13ounces)
ReplyDeleteQuestion - the Buffalo Chicken Lasagna...it says 1 jar of pasta sauce...but how big should that jar be?? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHi Kristen,
ReplyDeleteI used a 26 oz jar.

I love all your photo's from GMA. I watched you on the show and made the Buffalo Chicken Lasagna this weekend for my hubby and I. It was fantastic!! I can't wait for your cookbook to come out. Best wishes to you and so glad I found out about you on GMA.

Stephanie, we did an event last year with Robin Roberts (actually, it was her first public speaking event after being diagnosed). She is an absolutely amazing woman. I'm so glad you had the chance to meet her.
ReplyDeleteI watch GMA all the time and was excited when you mentioned gluten-free crockpot cooking. My husband has celiac, and while there are some great mixes out there, they are very expensive.
ReplyDeleteYou were delightful on the show, and I'm glad to hear the guys and Robin are as nice as they appear to be.
I've signed up for your daily e-mail. And I have a batch of your lasagna in my crockpot for tonight's meal.
I read the blog before I watched the clip, and was thinking, "How else would you pronounce O'Dea?" Then he called you Katherine, and it made more sense. What a great job you did! And what a tiny little person you are! Thumbs up, all around.
ReplyDeleteYou ROCK!
ReplyDeleteYou were wonderful! I missed the original airing, so was thrilled to find the link here.
ReplyDeleteWere you staying at The Millenium Broadway? I stayed there last year and the view from our room looked just like the view from your room.
I'm laughing with Lindsey-I too thought "how do they mess up that name" ooooo, gotcha, later on. You do look like an itty bitty thing. I'm still going through your posts for recipes. I have 4 crock pots and I'm always telling people that they have to try it because they will be hooked for life. What an awesome experience to have and you looked so comfortable on air. I would have lost my lunch on the set. Hope to find your book when it is release.
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited that you had a great trip. I set my DVR to make sure I didn't miss you on the television. That was wonderful. I know several that have tried your recipes out and loved them. I know big time is nice, but I know you are so happy to be home and I know they are happy to have Mommy back.
ReplyDeleteTake care
Saw you on GMA here in Japan and am now a frequent reader of your blog. Great job. You are a natural at this. Keep it up. I just tried your Chicken Makhani. You've got a whole bunch of Navy spouses in Japan viewing your blog now!
ReplyDelete-Nicki
G day from Australia!! LOVE this site!!!
ReplyDeleteYou look like you have been on TV ALL your life!!!!!
we dont have the buffalo sauce flavor here in Australia could you tell me if there is another ooption or what the flavor takes like maybe I could make something?
Hi Chelley!
ReplyDeleteWe just had our dear friends from Melbourne over last night for the Oscars.
The fires are scary-----you and your family are in my thoughts, and I hope are okay.
Do you have Tabasco sauce? The vinegary tang of Tabasco is what makes buffalo wings. I'd add 1 tablespoon to the pasta sauce, then give it a taste. You want a bit of heat, and a noticeable tang. Although you will end up with less liquid because you aren't using a whole cup, your noodles will cook fine; I've made traditional lasagna with just pasta sauce numerous times in the crockpot.

While watch GMA in the morning before running to work, I heard that you were coming on....I thought to myself...HEY I KNOW HER!!!! I don't of course, but I did make your Crockpot Pizza Soup which is a Hit in my house....thanks for sharing your adventures!!!
ReplyDeleteStephanie, I was so surprised to see you on GMA....I have obviously not been keeping up with your blog the last week or so (even though, I have a link to it on my own blog :-) ) Anyway, I was working out at the gym and THERE YOU WERE! I was so excited...it was like I had a famous friend! You really did do a great job. I have always felt that those morning news programs do not give their guests enough time to share....and I felt the same way watching you....I wish you could have shown even more of your great stuff!
ReplyDeleteYou were great! I hope to see you on the TODAY show soon!
ReplyDeleteYou did great..!!! could be a second career there...I also use my crock pot like you ... through it in and go to work. My daughter recently told me that she loved coming home from school to the smell of something that had been cooking all day..
ReplyDeletedeb
I saw you last Thursday and I can't believe how relaxed you looked! I would have been a bundle of nerves and I don't think I would have had the nerve to correct Chris lol... If he had done that to me I couldn't of done it but you did it VERY graceful!! I love GMA and it was great watching you!!
ReplyDeleteGreat job on GMA! The blue shirt looked great, and you could not see your zit LOL!
ReplyDeleteI love your blog. You are such an inspiration. Do you take requests for favorite recipe conversion to crock pot?
WooHoo!!!(fist bump) You go, girl!!! I had to work the day you were on, but the video was great!!!
ReplyDeleteI just watched your video and it was amazing!!! You did seem VERY relaxed! I always imagine how I would react in the hot seat and I have to say that I would not have done as well as you! Kudos!!!
ReplyDeleteYou did fantastic! I would have thought you had your own show you breezed through it so beautifully. Way to go! I think Robin is one of the most beautiful women on the planet. It looks like you had fun. I'm so glad you got to do the show.
ReplyDeleteYou were so great on GMA! That's about the only show I watch regularly (cus I'm a zombie in the morning) but I genuinely enjoy the show and Diane and Robin are gorgeous and Chris is Hot (notice the capitalization). You’re such a gem! Keep it up Stephanie! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat Job Katherine ... ooopps, I mean Stephanie. That was so cute! You looked marvelous my dear!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great trip and adventure in life! I am so happy for you!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful !
ReplyDeleteThat picture of you hugging your crockpot needs to go...you are so pretty and that pic just doesn't do you justice...it's nice to read something about just you and not crockpotting ! LOL
AWESOME! I love your blog! I can't wait to buy your book!
ReplyDeleteThank you!!!
Yea, you wore blue! You looked beautiful and you did a great job presenting both dishes and you were a natural. Good luck and can't wait for the cookbook.
ReplyDeleteAmy
You did such a great job! I love your recipes and I can't wait for your cookbook to come out! I am so trying the breakfast one!
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting the link to the segment! I've made countless recipes from your blog and think you did a great job on LIVE TV?!?!?
ReplyDeleteHighly caffeinated has nothing on that adrenaline high, I'm sure!!
As an English teacher, I am just really impressed that your daughter wanted a book or a map about New York. I totally would have asked for a tee-shirt or a stuffed bear.
ReplyDeleteWOW! WOW! WOW!!! This is awesome!! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteKim
I just watched. Good for you, you did great. Sorry bout the name thing but it sounds like Chris was really sorry.
ReplyDeleteBest of luck!
Carrie
Very surreal seeing you in person! I love the blog, have read for a long time. Thanks so much I really love the receipes.
ReplyDeleteYou were awesome on the show. We are actually going to make one of your crockpot lasagna recipes tomorrow. Thanks for your amazing blog. I consult it all the time!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations. Sounds like a terrific experience.
ReplyDeleteOMG! I can't believe I missed this! That's what I get for neglecting my feed reader. I'll go watch the clip ASAP. Congrats!
ReplyDeleteWow, congrats on your TV appearance!
ReplyDeleteSteph, I am so proud of you! I just saw the clip. You look amazing and did a fantastic job on the show! You ROCK!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat is just the coolest that you were able to be on TV - and meet all those famous faces. You're just one amazing lady - that's all I can say!
ReplyDelete
